Life is Great - God's even greater

CALL TO ME AND I WILL ANSWER YOU AND SHOW YOU GREAT AND MIGHTY THINGS WHICH YOU DO NOT KNOW. JEREMIAH 33:3

Back in 2005, I was diagnosed with colon cancer and had surgery and chemo to deal with that. I went until June 2007 with being "clean" and then a PET scan showed something in my liver. In September of 2007 I had surgery again and another round of chemo which I finished in April of this year. Due to a blood count that was a little off, my oncologist wanted another PET scan done. This one showed something in my abdominal cavity..the messentary area to be specific. The messentary is a bunch of connective tissue in the abdomen that connects all the organs. A dr. from Northwestern in Chicago told us that surgery was not an option and chemo would not help. He did say it was slow growing, as if that was any consolation.

My onc. said there was more chemo that could be given and he was wanting to start me on a regimen after giving me a few weeks off to enjoy the summer.

My wonderful husband was not about to give up on me. He called the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Zion, IL and we went up there the 2nd week in August. In three days time I saw 2 drs., had a PET and CT scan. On the third day (there is some significance here to the 3rd day!) that I was there, I got the results of everything.

I was going over in my mind how the dr. would look when he came in the room so I would know if it was good or bad news. Bouncing in the door..good news!....slowly coming in with serious look...bad news:(

Well, the door opened and he came in with a serious look on his face and put his hand on my shoulder. I just about died right there! He said, "I don't know what to say."; then he stepped back and folded his arms across his chest. "There is nothing on the PET scan....no cancer anywhere."

I was shocked and Don and I looked at each other, then back to the dr. "How can that be?" asked Don. "Thank God! Thank God!", I screamed. Both Dr. Abudalib and Don kept saying, "This is very strange."

So the good dr. decided then and there to go down to radiology and check the scans himself. He asked us if we minded waiting and then took off.

During that 1/2 hour he was gone, Don and I just sat there wondering, hoping, praying that it indeed was true. Don just kept saying, "This is strange." I said, "You know when you told me that you asked God to heal me? This is the answer to that prayer." He still remained skeptical and said, "Well, you know me..I studied 4 years in biology and have to exam everything." "Not me," I said. "I know what happened....it was an answer to all those prayers being said for me."

Well, the dr. came back and said he had two radiologists check the scans and there was nothing to be seen. You could not wipe the grins from all of our faces!

I know for a fact that God did answer those prayers. Many wonderful people were praying for me and he heard them. One of the things God impressed upon me was the word, longevity and I have held onto that. I don't know what He has planned for me in the coming days, weeks, months or years, but I do know that I will live each and every day for Him. He has given me another beginning in my life...another chance to get it right. And I plan to do just that.
